The clock is ticking at an office development in the centre of Cannock – in more ways than one.

The impressive but notorious Pioneer House clock which had been stuck at 20 minutes past twelve for more than seven years was finally put right after engineers from Derbyshire were called into fix it.

Experts from Wirksworth-based Good Directions spent two days restoring the 25-year-old clock and the landmark feature is finally running correctly again.

Les Kirk, of Good Directions – which has been installing and restoring clocks for more than 20-years, said: “Getting the hour hand off proved to be difficult as it was well and truly seized in place and on a 1.8 metre diameter dial this was no small challenge!

“But once that was done, it went like clockwork! We replaced all the electrics and the main operating system in what is quite a small loft space. It is now radio signal controlled for accuracy, internally illuminated and should run for many years to come.”

The repairers were called in following a refurbishment of four office suites available to let.

And time is now running out for firms looking to take space in the building after one unit was let shortly after the clock was fixed.

The remaining office suites are available through commercial property agents D&P Holt Ltd together with their joint agent Kingston & Partners. The suites range from 838 sq ft to 1325 sq ft and can be combined if required to a total of 3008 sq ft.

The building, which has private parking spaces available, is located on the edge of the town centre, on the corner of Mill Street and Avon Road, within walking distance of the bus station.

Marie Langan, of D&P Holt, said: “The clock has become an amusing topic of conversation over recent years at Pioneer House.

“I know for a fact that it has been out of action for at least seven years – some locals think even longer.

“We were putting the refurbished units on the market to let and thought we should synchronise our efforts on time and space!

“And, with one unit already snapped up, it’s clear this is not the time to stand still if you are a company seeking up to the minute offices in the area. We can give you a big hand!”
