All commercial and industrial property in England and Wales has just been revalued by Central Government for rating purposes.
A revaluation now happens every 5 years. It is designed to ensure that rating assessments remain fair and reflect changes in values, both generally and specifically.
The new List will be effective from 1 April 2010, but all ratepayers have just been sent a draft of their new assessment, together with a note of how it was calculated.
Ratepayers can appeal if they think their assessment is wrong, inaccurate or unfair, but not until the new List has become effective - EXCEPT if they believe that a factual error or mistake has been made, then the valuation officer who carried out the work would like to be told now so as to have the opportunity of correcting the error before the List becomes active.
D&P Holt has a specialist Rating Department. If you are a ratepayer and think your assessment is too high, please contact us now. We will be pleased to give you a desktop overview. If an appeal is eventually made, fees are invariably geared towards savings made.
Please contact us for an initial consultation if you need reassurance - ask for Barry Andrews or Mark Winslow.
